Loupes Review
MedLite 3.5x Prismatic Lopues

Hello,

I'm a second year dental student and I was looking around for an affordable set of loupes for dental school and had a difficult time finding a nice set. I decided to test the loupes made by MedLite and write a review to help other people.

Loupe model: Medlite prisma 350 with the Medlite led light.

1) Components are sturdy and look very durable

2) Magnification and resolution is good. I'd give it a 8 out of 10

4) They're flip ups, so they're  inherently a little bit heavy. The advantage of having flip-ups is that you can customize the angle of declination and interpupillary distance to fit you comfortably. Also, if you decide that loupes are not for you, you can sell them and the buyer can customize it to him/her.

5) The field depth is about 4", but with the 2.5x galilean loupes it's 5.2".

6) The main disadvantage is that they have 3 working distances that you can choose from 13.7", 17.7" and 21.7". If you don't fall within an 0.5 of an inch of these measurements then, you should not buy a set.

7) The light is nice and bright, so if you can, it will be a great addition to your loupes. The battery pack can be replaced by yourself which will save you a ton of money.

8) The only thing I cannot tell is how they will work on the long run, but every unprecedented endeavor has some uncertainties.

So, to wrap it up, I think that for $260 these surgical loupes should be sufficient to get you through dental school and to test yourself for a semester to find out if you like loupes. Once you get your DDS degree, you can buy the BMW and shell out the $1400 for a set of  high quality loupes.
